Emily van Lidth de Jeude is an explorative learning consultant, working with parents and educators to develop strategies for bringing explorative learning into all facets of life in the classroom, the wilderness, and at home.

Services:

  • consulting and pro-D workshops
    • explorative learning in the classroom or home
    • explorative learning in the wilderness
    • forest school and outdoor learning planning/conceptualization
  • phone or video consulting for unschooling parents and caregivers

Emily spent most of her childhood exploring the forests around her home on Bowen Island/Nex̱wlélex̱m, inspired by the richness of life and beauty that she found there. Her first realization that she was a part of her environment was through her parents’ hobby farm in the eighties. Raising, processing, storing and foraging for vegetables and meat gave Emily not only a great appreciation for her place in the ecosystem, but also a deep interest in ecology, and a fascination with learning and teaching through exploration and discovery.

She studied visual arts in the Netherlands and Vancouver, then dedicated herself to parenting and teaching, following her passion for explorative learning as she unschooled her two children, developed various art and wilderness programs, and pursued her visual art career. She founded and ran both the Bowen Nature Club's (F)unschool program, as well as the Wild Art program for many years. Today, as a social practice artist, explorative learning consultant, and lifelong environmentalist, Emily works to help others feel empowered and engaged in their own communities and ecosystems.
